The Rembrandt House
The Rembrandt House is the formerly house where Rembrandt van Rijn has lived, the house is located in the middle of the center at the “Jodenbreestraat” next to Waterloo Square. This building has been reconstructed and has become one of the cutest museums of Amsterdam.
The house has been built around 1606 and Rembrandt bought the house on the 5th of January 1639, for an amount of 3000 Dutch Guilders (about 1400 euro). After Rembrandt became bankrupt, the house was sold on an auction in 1658 for the amount of 11.000 Dutch Guilders (about 5000 euro). In 1907 the house was bought by the municipality of Amsterdam for a Rembrandt exposition. In the nineties they decided to build a new house next to the former house of Rembrandt, where currently a big collection of drawings and etchings are available for the visitors.
If you are interested in the way Rembrandt and other people from that period lived, you should definitely take a visit to this museum. This neighborhood is also very nice. It is located next to the Red-Light district, ‘’Nieuwmarkt’’ and‘’Waterlooplein’’.

This museum is one of the most well know museums of Europe. I have been here already several times and I am still impressed by the qualities of one of the most famous painters from the 17th century Rembrandt van Rijn. This painter is known for his capability to paint light. His most famous painting is "De Nachtwacht’’, which can be seen in this museum in Amsterdam. I was shocked when I was told that the commissioners of Rembrandt were not happy with the composition of the people and other things on the canvas. According to the commissioners the painting was to messy and not traditional enough. Nowadays this painting is one of the world’s most famous art pieces. This work and other famous work of Rembrandt can be seen in the Rijksmuseum.
